Koiviston Auto tested Kemppi’s Flexlite GXe Series 3 torch and Master M 358 welder in their vehicle body repair workshop. The tools proved highly effective in aluminum welding, especially in confined spaces.

Koiviston Auto is Finland’s largest bus operator, serving regional and long-distance traffic from Helsinki to Lapland. The company runs over 1100 vehicles, including contracts under brands like HSL and Onnibus. Its vehicle body repair workshop in Helsinki is responsible for structural collision repairs across the fleet, including external customer vehicles.

Supervisor Hannu Ojainmaa manages the facility, overseeing repair assessments, insurance coordination, and welding quality. The team primarily works with aluminum, stainless steel, and structural steel, with aluminum posing the greatest welding challenges due to its heat sensitivity and oxide layer.

The torch and power source work excellently together. Perfect for our needs – I only wish we’d had this setup years ago.

Structural aluminum welding in confined spaces

In bus body repairs, technicians often weld inside vehicle compartments with limited access. Tight spaces are surrounded by sensitive components such as electrical wiring and air lines, which limit movement and increase fire risk. While previous equipment completed the tasks, it was occasionally time-consuming. Koiviston Auto needed a solution that would enhance precision and safety without compromising on weld quality.

Ergonomic torch and precise power source improve performance

Koiviston Auto piloted Kemppi’s new Flexlite GXe Series 3 torchand Master M 358 MIG/MAG welding machine in real-world repair scenarios. The GXe Series 3 torch, equipped with a flexible coaxial cable, stood out for its maneuverability in tight spaces. Its compact and ergonomic design enabled faster and safer operation during demanding bodywork. Technicians appreciated the tool’s lightweight, which reduced fatigue during repetitive tasks.

Master M 358 brought consistent arc performance in both aluminum and steel welding. The unit’s intuitive controls and stable arc characteristics elevated the quality of aluminum welds, a key requirement for vehicle frames. With the integrated wire feed system, no separate feeder was needed, simplifying the setup and improving access.

The feedback from the workshop team was clear: this solution speeds up repairs without compromising quality. Supported by responsive service from Kemppi, the experience has been fully positive.
